How felony bonds work

A felony arrest is frightening for the person in custody and the family trying to help. Bond amounts, eligibility, and conditions vary by case. Call with the official custody information available, and an agent will explain the surety-bond paperwork and written responsibilities.

The court determines bond eligibility, amount, and release conditions. Some cases require an appearance before the current bond status is available. The official jail or court record is the source for that status.

When a surety bond is available, an agent will provide the premium, payment terms, co-signer duties, and any collateral requirements in writing before you sign.

A qualified co-signer (indemnitor) who is 18 or older

What the co-signer agrees to

Someone — usually a family member or close friend — co-signs the bond as the indemnitor. That person promises the defendant will appear at every court date, and accepts financial responsibility for the full bond if they don't.
